Functions of a volunteer:

A volunteer is an active participant whose main functions are

  1. Participation in Fund raising effort: such as car boot sales, distributing/collecting charity tins in shops and clubs, participation in fund raising events, or promoting an interest in the aims and objectives of the charity.
  2. Skills training at projects locations in the UK and abroad.
  3. Project assessment and reporting
  4. Project documentation
  5. Assisting new volunteers

In accordance with the laws of the countries we operate in, volunteers with certain categories of criminal records must accept that they are prohibited from working with children or with funds without direct supervision. However, these functions are usually left to designated local officers and therefore the rule does not significantly limit the function of a volunteer, who can be productive without working directly with children or funds.

Functions of a member:

A member is usually a hands-off supporter of the charity's aims and objectives through donations of funds from the member's own resources or through fund raising by the member or local group. The most commonly used support system is to donate a fixed amount by any of the following:

  1. Regular cash payments
  2. Regular cheques
  3. Direct debit
  4. Direct transfers
  5. Help with Fund raising efforts such as car boot sales, distributing/collecting charity tins in shops and clubs, participation in fund raising events, or promoting an interest in the aims and objectives of the charity.
  6. Any donations you make can increase by 28p per pound from the Inland Revenue if you pay tax in the UK. To Gift Aid your donation, please fill in the donation form on the Newsletter.

A member remains a member for as long as he/she wants to be a member regardless of the level or nature of participation.

A member is free to carry out all the functions of a volunteer should their circumstances change to allow such change of status, whether temporarily or for a longer term.

Benefits of being a volunteer/member

As a member/volunteer, you will receive periodic updates of project progress. If you need a detailed report on any project, you can request it. You can also visit the project sites under the auspices of the charity. Please inform the charity office and obtain detailed instructions before you visit. (We details of accommodation and details of the project to you before you go)

In addition you can be in contact with other members at any level you want.

When your application form has been received, you will be notified by post/Email and you will receive an ID card, which you return in the unlikely event that you no longer wish to continue working with us. Your ID card is necessary when you visit any of our project site or when you hold public fundraising events on behalf of the charity.
