How the charity is funded.

General

Membership form

All projects are funded by donations from well wishers. We have different types of donors as follows:

  • Member, who donate a regular amount per week or month. A member can donate any amount from a few pence/cents per week. We welcome anyone who wishes to be our Charity member.
  • Individuals who give a singular donation after understanding the nature of our work.
  • Individuals who give away goods they no longer want, to be used for our jumble sales or car boot sales.
  • Anonymous donors who perhaps give one or more donations but do not wish to be identified.
  • Companies, usually working in the areas that we operate, which would like to participate in the general improvement of the area and work in partnership with us.
Donations from individuals The bulk of our funding comes from impromptu donations from individuals who find out about our work. For such donors in the United Kingdom, we encourage them to fill in the Gift Aid form and submit it with your donation if you are a tax payer. The government of the UK adds an extra 28% to your donation. While the scheme lasts, please use it.
Donations from Businesses We receive donations from businesses both in the areas that we operate and from elsewhere.
Donations from Members Individuals can apply for membership. As a member you will be able to influence the projects at any location you choose. You can visit any project subject to the controls imposed by the project host country. You can also participate in fund raising subject to existing membership rules which you can obtain from us.
Items for sale
Advertise free at Cheapads		 The online shop is available for everyone to use to buy or sell any items you would like to donate to the charity. You can sell your item and donate money to different charities if you so wish. It is free to sell/buy. Advertise here and transact with your buyer privately then use PAYPAL to send us the money. Paypal is a secure means of sending money and it means we do not need to know any of your personal information. We just deal with the transaction. However, PayPal charges a small fee, which is deducted before your donation arrives into the charity account. You can also use Charity Choice, which is designed specifically for handling donations to different charities. Charity choice does not charge as much per transaction as PayPal.

We hold a number of fund raising functions each year These are usually well attended. A schedule of fund raising functions will be published here. Maybe there is one near you soon. They are usually fun events suitable for grown ups, children, families and individuals and businesses.

Volunteers who would like to spend time at one of our projects locations can be helped to fund raise for the cost of flights. Most of the areas we operate in are not expensive to live in. We welcome anybody with skills or enthusiasm. We also welcome students on gap years. We usually incorporate a lot of local learning for the curious students. A lot of our local trustees and volunteers are trainers, teachers or academics who understand the requirements of the gap year students and have put together comprehensive guides for those interested.

Administration
of funds

How the funds are administered:

All the money raised is used for the primary purposes that the donors specify. All our staff are volunteers who are not paid for the work they do. All have other jobs. This means there are no administration fees. However, the charity has direct employees at the point of delivery. Each orphanage has a set of parents whose function is to look after the children. Because most of our orphanages are located in remote areas, it is not feasible for the orphanages' parents to have formal employment elsewhere, and because we feel that looking after so many young children requires the full attention of the parents, we deem this to be a full time occupation. For that reason, all our house parents are fully paid at local rates.
